Given his
6ft 6in frame and years of experience as a top-class central defender,
Per Mertesacker might have done a lot more to stop Martin Skrtel heading
the late equaliser at Anfield.
As
the Liverpool defender rose to head home Adam Lallana’s corner in the
final minute to make it 2-2, Arsenal’s Germany centre half seemed to
duck and turn his back on the ball rather than attack it in the manner
expected of a World Cup winner.
Spaniard Nacho Monreal, next to Mertesacker, didn’t cover himself in glory either and Arsene Wenger’s defensive woes continue.
